Some of these sites offer free download of geological and GIS data such as National Uranium Resourse Evaluation Data (NURE); USGS geochemical database; National Elevation Database (NED); Geographic Name Information System (GNIS); digital raster graphic data (DRG); Public Land Survey System (PLSS); digital orthophoto quads (DOQQ); digital line graphic data (DLG); U. S. Census Bureau Data (TIGER); ArcViewÆ shape files; ArcInfoÆ .e00 coverages.

The following sites seem to be revamped quite often. You may have to do a search to find the most current URL. The types of data which can be downloaded are also in a state of flux. In some cases, the only data which is available is from a map server which means, in most cases, that you can only download raster data.
